All About Search Engine Optimization For Dummies

If you have a website of your own you should know that you don’t get traffic by letting your website just sit where it is. You need to point visitors to your website somehow. There are a myriad of different methods internet marketers use to get people to come to a website. These include and are not limited to, paying to get an ad on another website, pay-per-click advertising, and advertising on an ezine, or an online newsletter with many subscribers. These are all very effective ways to get traffic to your site. The strategies you need to use to make these work well have been discussed over and over again. They are also very expensive in most cases. What I want to discuss is a free way to get tons of targeted traffic.

What I am referring to is search engine optimization (SEO). This is when you change some things about your site to get them as high as you can on a search engine. Have you ever used a search engine? That’s a foolish question because these are used by everyone. When you do use Google or yahoo to find information or products what do you click on? You probably click on the first one on the list. This is because most likely this is the best site of the certain keyword you are searching for. One way to get your site rated highly on a search engine page is to have a content rich site with your own high quality content.

If you search some key words and scroll down to some of the bottom sites on the page you can see when you click on some that there content is not really that good, but they are still ranked 9 or 10 out of thousands of websites for that topic. This is because some people take advantage of the “search engine system”. This is the system followed that chooses where you site will rank on a search engine. The goal of every search engine is to try and catalog every single site on the World Wide Web. Unfortunately this cant be done so they can only get some websites added to there “catalog”. They usually focus on the content rich sites.

There is a way to manipulate search engines to help raise your page rank. These methods are not easy to administer and they are amazingly time consuming. Some include changing the hltm or css coding of your website and your Meta tags. Search engines categorize your website in a key word. One way to help your page rank is by repeating a key word over and over again in a certain content page. If you “overstuff” a page with a certain word you will be penalized so I would advise against that. If you’re not a coder or a professional page designer you will not be able to use the Meta tag changing. If you do know how to manipulate code then you probably already know about using the key word in them.

In internet marketing there is a way to automating everything. Of course someone had to come along and create software to automate search engine optimization. I use software for everything; it’s a way to be more efficient and free up your time for more important things, or other aspects of your website. If you automate search engine optimization then you can worry about your content, format, product quality, or many other aspects of internet marketing. Automation is a way to get your work done with less work. It can be looked as like a sort of an exchange. You trade the work you have to do for a small dollar price. Of course it also does the work better, in some cases, then you could. In these cases it actually creates income.

SEO is a way of getting free targeted traffic to your site. If you want your site ranked high ona search engine page, all you need is a website with a lot of good content to keep people coming back and haing each page packed with key words, but not too much. The recommended amount is 7% or 7 per100 words. This may seem like it is easy enough but it is actually hard to make a quality article with repeated words. To make it easy for yourself I recommend you invest in automation of the process. SEO can be done manually and is the best free choice for getting targeted traffic to your site.

Link Building Services for SEO Dummies: Which Links Get Google?s Love

March 23, 2011 by admin

Back when I started SEO a guru once told me, “Search Engines come out at night, searching for key words and then listing those words so they float to the top of the Search Engine list so in the morning when people start searching, they find your website. The more a word or phrase is used on your website, the more popular it becomes and the higher it gets on the list.” Sounds a lot easier than it is in the real world scenario. Search engines certainly have changed since this advice was given to me and now keywords while important when selected do not attribute as much to rankings anymore, today link building accounts for approximately 80% of search engines results, leaders like Google, place on your website value. In other words, it’s the total number of popular related websites that have your sites web address (URL) somewhere on their site that determines were you are going to be positioned in the search engines.

So what’s a newbie to do?  Most people have no clue of what is a “key phrase” or ‘SEO’ is and most do not even have a basic understanding on how Search Engines work, let alone advanced terms such as ‘Links’ or ‘one-way links’ or ‘link-backs’. Regardless of your knowledge, it’s comforting to know that with just a small amount of dedicated time, you can propel your site to the first page of the search engines, but depending on the industry you operate in, it’s can be quite difficult to. You say…No time, no knowledge and no idea on how to do it?

Simply put, if you want to have your website at the top of the search engines results, you’re going to need to start a link building campaign (full stop!). To know how valuable link building really is a recent survey from Marketing Sherpa’s Benchmark guide 2008 found that out of 2,475 small to large businesses attributed SEO (which is 80% link building) to be one of the highest return on investment (ROI) strategies available with an average return of 36%! This was the second highest return next to email marketing at 39%.

How to start link building

There are multiple companies who specialise in the mundane tasks of link building your site: Their lists, their phrases, their time, something of which most people who are building a business have very minimal amounts of, can easily be focused on building links for your website. So what do you need to know before purchasing link building services from a link building company?

What are the best links to get?

Since Google’s algorithm change back in 2003 – one-way, theme-links have become the most valuable links a website can acquire. These are links that use text such as articles, website pages, press releases and reviews that provide search engines readers with valuable information. If a link is included within the text and it correspondingly published on a popular website, this is considered a highly valuable link in the search engines eyes and enhances your web presence.

Example of a one-way link

If you have an article of approximately 500-600 words and you have a link pointing to your website at the end of the article this is a great first step for creating a one-way theme link. The next step is to have it published in an article directory or on a blog that is has a large amount of daily visitors, so people and the search engines notice your content and your one-way link and value it accordingly.

Search engines count this one link as a point towards your sites value and if you continue to publish various forms of content always including your website URL (link) you get more and more points, then you start to move up the rankings.

Consistency is the key

How does this work and why is it effective? If you publish content to often Search Engines may consider you as a Spammer and penalise. This may be as severe as banning your site. The frequency and consistency of your publishing content is very important from the start. If you build links too slowly, then competition could take the top positions by building more links then you or if create too many links too quickly the Search Engines should slap you. It’s a careful balancing act and depending on your competition you must find link building packages that suit your industry.

Reciprocal links have lost their value.

When a company places your link on their site, if you want, you can place their link, if it happens to be appropriate, on your site. Everyone wins. This is called reciprocal linking. But according to large search engines like Google count the numbers of sites that are strictly reciprocal and don’t value their placement as much as one way links. Before 2003 reciprocal linking had considerable weight in determining rank, but not anymore, while some reciprocal links are important to have, it’s the one-way links that will affect your sites performance the most.
Imagine if you typed in the name of your web site on Google, MSN, Yahoo or Ask and immediately your name, information and articles about your business popped up. Those are the results good Link Building Services can provide.

If all this internet jargon is boggling, just take the time, a minimal amount of money and contact a link building services company. You will see, and your pocketbook will feel the results in a very short time.

Search Engine Optimization for Dummies

March 21, 2011 by admin

Are you feeling like a complete dummy when it comes to Search Engine Optimization (SEO)?  Don’t feel bad, most of us that have entered the online business areas have felt that way for the longest time, even me!  Search Engine Optimization is one of the few marketing avenues that people become scared of.  I don’t know if physiologically the word optimization frightens them or what.  Or if it is because they have never had to approach this before in their life? It’s okay.  Like I said, I have been where you are right now.  I will do what I can to make it so easy that any dummy can do it or even a caveman.

What is Search Engine Optimization?

In real layman’s terms I will say that Search Engine Optimization is a process of making website and their content attractive to search engines.  Being an internet marketer for a long time I stumble across many websites on a daily basis.  While these websites may look pretty, I look at these sites with a different set of eyes than most.  What I see is that most people are losing thousands of visitors to their sites due to a few simple steps they have not completed.

Search Engine Optimization is something that your primary goal is to rank on page one of any search engine.  Examples of items you could rank on page one of a search engine could be articles, videos, blog posts, and press releases.

How do you go About This?

You want to make sure that every page contains relevant keywords or phrases to your business.  I sure hope I have done a good job up to this point, if so you could easily pick out my keywords in this article.  If you cannot, either I need to go back to SEO school or you need to keep reading.

Searching on a Search Engine

The internet and search engines are obviously amazing inventions, but did you know they evolve daily?  Since the introduction of search engines, they have become smarter and more user friendly.  In saying that, you want to make sure your keyword phrases would be how you would talk.  If you are struggling to find relevant keywords head over to Google and type in Adwords.  This is a keyword tool that shows you how many people searched that specific keyword and others that resemble it.

Title is needing a Keyword

As I’ve said before, every page that has a title on it needs a relevant keyword.  In the title you want to use your keyword and then maybe three more times throughout the page.  The determining factor on how many times you use the keyword is by how much content you have on the page.  Be careful not to smother or cram the keyword down the reader’s throat.  Make sure its natural and has a good flow.  An insider tip from me, refrain in using your company name as keywords.  I am only saying this because there may be quite a few people that don’t know your company name, so they will not be searching for you.

Plug in the Title Tag, Meta Keywords, and Meta Description

You want to make sure you also insert the same keywords into the Title tag, Meta keywords, and Meta description.  Some search engines actually use the information that you inserted into the Meta description so use this to your advantage.  This information is provided to the readers on the actual pages of the search engines as small blips of the content.  While you can tweak this some, I would just warn you to be transparent with your information.  What do I mean?  Don’t input really complementing Meta description that has no relevance to the actual content.  Doing this will only cause you to lose a reader but the Search Engine Optimization you have been working so hard to obtain.  Remember like I said earlier, the internet and the search engines evolve daily.

More Than Four Will Get You a Mr. Yuck

As I lightly touched on how many keywords you would want to have in your content, be relevant.  You want to keep your reader in mind whenever you provide content.  Be considerate of their time and also the fact that they are even on your site reading your content.  If you do not follow this recommendation you will definitely be “slapped” with a SPAM tag by the search engines.

This concludes a general overview of Search Engine Optimization for Dummies.  Anyone you talk to that has a clue about his topic would have to agree that these are very general but critical elements.  If you follow these elements your chances of being on page one or two of a search engine are significantly improved.

Wishing you everlasting success,

Your friend and mentor,

Social Media Marketing for Dummies: Introduction

According to the gospel of social media marketing for Dummies, it can be said without presumption that we have entered into a digital age where the majority of all our communications, transactions and interactions (and the histories thereof) can all readily be performed and viewed on the computer monitors in front of us. No need to step outside in order to do those myriad of everyday tasks and chores:

Need to pay the bills? Transfer the funds from your bank online.
Want to read the latest news? Check out the headlines online.
Fridge looking bare? Order groceries online.
Want to read the latest Harry Potter? Order it online.
Want to catch up with a friend? Email them, Facebook them, Twitter them… online

There doesn’t seem to be any limits or boundaries to the social marketing transactions and interactions we are capable of within the online community! Yet the plethora of social media and networking sites that we use to connect and stay in touch with our friends, families, acquaintances and colleagues extends into more than just the social arena… Allow us to enlighten you: this is social media marketing for Dummies which you can see at www.Googlopoly.com.

Social Media Marketing for Dummies: Promoting your Business

Social media marketing for Dummies isn’t really for those that are a beer short of a six pack; it’s for people like you and your competitors – the business owners – who simply aren’t aware of the incredible possibilities of social media that lie at your fingertips. Social media and networking websites such as Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, Digg and the ±400 others out there in the virtual ether can all be used as social marketing and advertising tools for your business, no matter how big or small! In fact, the law of social media marketing for Dummies dictates that the modern business that does not make use of this incredible online advertising space is bound only to fall behind its competitors… way behind. Why? Because the majority of us Earth inhabitants look for information regarding the products and services we need – the products and services your business provides – on the Internet. So, if your business isn’t visible online, you are losing out on all the customers, clients and profits your competitors are merrily enjoying.

According to social media marketing for Dummies, you can achieve the following social marketing simply by creating accounts with as many social media and networking sites as possible and regularly posting content that is relevant to your business on them:

· Increase your website’s visibility to Google, Yahoo, MSN and local search directories, etc. using Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Social Media Optimization (SMO).
· Promote your business and increase its exposure to your target market audience through your social media accounts.
· You can actively become your company’s spokesperson and promote the brand name and image online.
· You can isolate and target your specific market audience.
· And last, but not least, according to social media marketing for Dummies, you can rig up software that will monitor and assess the results of your online advertising in the form of monthly visits to your website, the average length of stay, followed-up visits, etc.

Syndicating Articles for Seo

March 19, 2011 by admin

Writing informative articles and syndicating them over the internet is an easy way to get hundreds, or even thousands, of one-way links to your site, skyrocketing your search engine rankings. As your articles spread across the internet, more and more readers who find the articles useful will find and follow links to your site. You will become known as a leader, not a follower in your field, as your name and homepage link appears on hundreds of other sites.

Many webmasters have never heard of article syndication. Those who know about syndication often avoid it, thinking it is too much trouble, or that they have nothing to write about. Other might see no reason to give away valuable content for nothing. However, producing and distributing articles is not nearly as difficult as it might seem, and the advantages are many.

Creating Your Articles

If the prospect of sitting down to write a few articles frightens you, one option is to outsource the work by hiring a ghostwriter. Ghostwriters can be found by registering at www.elance.com or www.directfreelance.com and posting a simple project outline. Writers will bid on your project, and you accept the writer with the qualifications and bid that best suits you. If you go to the trouble of hiring a ghostwriter, it is probably a good idea to get them to research and write a number of articles, rather than just one.

You can also easily produce new articles by recycling some content from your site, or creating several articles with some overlapping content. For example, if you are running a site on pilates (a type of exercise) you could easily produce four articles with titles like “Just What is Pilates?,” “A Brief History of Pilates?,” “Is Pilates Right for You?,” and “Why is Pilates So Popular with Hollywood Celebs?,” and use a bit of general information in all four articles. The content does not have to be revolutionary-in fact, there is a greater demand for general, “for dummies”-type introductory articles. You should proofread your articles before sending them out, or that one typo will soon be replicated hundreds of times. However, the writing does not have to be at the Pulitzer-Prize level. Just try to write simple, straightforward articles introducing the topics of your site, geared toward someone with no previous knowledge.

Tips on Writing Articles

Include a reprint disclaimer at the bottom of each article. For example: “Webmasters are free to reprint this article provided that it is not edited, the author’s information is included, and the links are included as live links.”

Many directories will reject articles that include links to your site in the body text. Include links to your site in the “Author info” section.

The “author info” section, also called the “resource box” at the bottom of the article is a place for you to include a link to your site and brief introduction. Always remember to include this, as there is little point in syndicating articles without it. Here is an example of a simple resource box text: “John Smith is the author of http://www.Domian.com, a free guide to making an income online, and maintains an SEO site at http://www.Domain.com”

Distributing You Articles

There are a number of free article directories below where you can register and submit your articles. Most of them are large sites that are constantly growing as authors add new articles every day, meaning that the search engines often spider them. Even if your articles are never picked up and republished, submitting them to the directories alone will have a huge effect on your search engine rankings. The submission guidelines vary a bit from site to site.

Search Engine Optimization for Dummies

March 18, 2011 by admin

Seo is Search Engine Optimization. A magician’s bag of tricks to get your web page on high SERP (Search Engine Rank Placement ) and High PR (Page Rank). SERP is when you search on Google for a keyword. SEO is the art of getting your web page to be listed for as many keywords pertaining to your site on the first page of hundreds. Since people have short attention spans, they tend not to search ten pages of returns to find your page.

To get high SERP you can bid on keywords, through Google and other search engines you can bid on certain keywords. Every time someone clicks on my add in blue at the top and sides of Google pages (These are the auction listings, I will pay anywhere from .5 to every time someone clicks on my site for the keywords I bid on. The one who bids the most gets to be on the first page for cats. The rest of Google is suppose to be based on scholarly research qualifications).

So you need to find a keyword that people actually look for but not too many people are bidding on. You got to niche your keyword. To find appropriate keywords you check your web logs to see what words people used in search engines to bring you to your site. Also their are online tools to use that suggest keywords and give a thesaurus of options along with how many times people searched for that keyword last month.

Robots are programs that scour the web following all the links on your page to each other and all the ones you list to other sites. They check to see you have good code and list your words for their directory so people can find any phrase you placed on your site. Now links to other sites within three pages of your home page toward the top of each page get better points than any deep in your site or toward the bottom of the page. Also they down score links if their is too many on a page.

To get your site index by robots you go to search engines and go to the bottom of the page and find a link called submit your URL. there you put your address in and hit return. Anywhere from 3 weeks to four months it could take a robot to find you for the first time. Then it will index you once a month unless in your pages code in meta tags you tell it to visit every day if you like. Also it is good to submit URL on search engines every time you change your home page. More times you change your home page the better for points

Now to get links is a tedious process of sending out hundreds of emails with a friendly greeting, Your site title with appropriate keyword placement in it, and site description. For their listing you, you give them a reciprocal link with their title and description on your link page. You can get people to link to you as an expert through natural linking. You can do the same for them. But if you get a link without giving one, it equals you higher points. Which in turn give you higher SERP. Other way to get natural links is to create something buzz worthy or give free tools.

Last but not least are RSS, Blogs, Newsletters, and Article submission. RSS is real Simple Syndication. It is a poor mans AP wire service. People have attachments to their browsers called aggregators that read this peculiar code. It can also have placement on your web page. Say you can have a feed from the latest news updated daily by the New York Times which helps keep fresh content on your site to get points. Or you can have people list your articles on their site giving you links back to your site. Then we have Blogs. If you blog you will put a link back to your other page. When this gets higher PR so does your other site. Also it is something else to attract clients to you in another arena. Also every time you comment on a board or blog, make sure you link back to your site in your signature. All post tend to be indexed by robots. If they find your link they come back to your page and give you points. Then newsletters you create will do the same. Links from emails count too. If you click on the links above, you will give points to that web site. But mostly newsletters are marketing to gather sales and inform the public on your product. Then we have article submission. By submitting articles to directories, they get published by other web sites and provide links back to your site.

Search Engine Marketing for Dummies

March 17, 2011 by admin

Marketing a product or service through the search engines has become a field where expertise is a basic requirement in order to stay competitive and achieve success. Marketing through search engines involves having great SEO work done to a website in order to rank high enough in the search engine results page to implement a marketing strategy or setting up a pay-per-click account with one of the top search engines.

After performing ongoing SEO tuning to a website and achieving a certain number of visitors and hits a day then it is necessary to further develop a marketing strategy in order to expand the profit margin. Organic webpage rankings are achieved through a variety of practices such as directory submissions; daily updates to the site providing valuable information, developing tools which are useful and targeted to a specific community, article submissions, advertising through signatures and avatars on different web forums, etc.

It is important to realize that in order to achieve successful results through search engine marketing strategies, it is necessary to have picked a good product or service to advertise, then perform a careful keyword research in order to determine the keywords which will bring the most traffic without running into a fierce battle with millions of other highly competitive pages, i.e. “running a mortgage website” would cause headaches even to SEO experts due to the fact that you would be competing with companies which invest huge capital to attract clients to their products and services.

So if you see a big obstacle don’t try to go against it (unless you have an excellent business plan).

Search engine marketing also involves running pay-per-click campaigns in order to gather enough information to apply organic campaigns and to tap into high quality traffic which shows a great return on investment to dedicated individuals.

Pay-per-click campaigns are a delicate topic and not a recommended way to market products if you are a complete beginner. It is best to start reading webmaster forums which have a special section dedicated to pay per click campaigns in order to learn how this particular business practice works and how you can avoid loosing money on such campaigns.

Both search engine marketing strategies mentioned above are highly profitable if proper research is done prior to starting a campaign. The difference between the two is that PPC campaigns offer a faster way to test a certain market and results are acquired almost immediately allowing you to modify or correct your strategies.

RSS For Dummies

March 15, 2011 by admin

First, I would like to apologize for the title (RSS for Dummies), but it really describes the way I wrote this article. Because the RSS concept can be confusing, I tried to explain it in the simplest way. While many people are stuck using the same-old methods of Internet marketing, there is a new type of technology that has strongly boosted the possibilities of Internet marketing. This technology is RSS, or Really Simple Syndication.

Even though RSS is an online phenomenon, it has its brothers and sisters in the non-online world. We can analyze the ways RSS compares to other technologies in the non-online world to understand it better. If we take a look at newspaper, magazine, radio, and television syndication, we notice the way RSS corresponds to these forms of technology.

Syndication

So what is syndication? Simply put, it is a conglomerate of content organizations that send media to various locations.

Almost every single major newspaper in the world is syndicated in some way or another, and so is every major radio and television station.

Syndication occurs out of the need for convenience. Media outlets simply can’t manage to produce every single issue they would like to include in their radio station or television program. So, through syndication, they are able to purchase content from a hub, which is the syndicate. That way they save a lot of money and capitalize in economies of scale.

Remember, syndication occurs in a variety of media, from radio and television to newspapers, and sometimes even other media as well. Many of your favorite television shows and radio programs are syndicated. In fact, the most popular shows are almost always syndicated because they have to in order to reach a worldwide audience.

RSS: The Online Version of Syndication

RSS basically serves as a content distributor for online content, similar to syndication. However, syndicates charge for their services, whereas RSS is free of charge. However, it is possible to gain revenue from RSS. Read on.

If an RSS feed is distributing provocative or interesting content, then people are more likely to visit the source of that content. So, RSS feeds can hugely increase web visibility and increase the number of people who visit your site. Because many site owners are smart enough to use contextual advertising in their sites, when visitors find interesting content on RSS and they click on it, they arrive at the site which distributed content. In turn, the site gets money from its advertisers, because people are visiting the site and clicking on the ads.

RSS moves way faster than syndication, in fact, it is the evolved version of syndication. You can create content and instantly distribute it throughout the world, whereas syndicated material is a lot slower and needs more time to be distributed everywhere. RSS syndication also creates that elusive viral marketing effect that grows like a snowball effect.

The more you use RSS, the better you get at distributing content. In turn, more people will visit your web site. RSS is defining itself as a banner technology that distributes content quickly. It is advantageous to use this technology, because it can only help.

SEO Agency Or SEO Consultant?

No matter if your business promotes a Wing Chun Dummy or weight loss products, with search engine optimisation on the rise, there are several mind blowing theories that are circulating about what will get you high up in the research engines. From having your key phrases in bold font, to having your text as close to the top of a web page, along with the well-known 3% – 7% keyword density rule, we can scrap them all since it comes down to 3 fundamental essential factors.

Keyword Choice

The most important point out of the 3 is keyword choice. If you end up selecting keywords that do not have any/few searches, then you are merely wasting time by optimising for them. There is no point in being ranked quantity 1 for a key phrase when there are no searchers for that term.
