To feature your website on top of every important search engine, it is vital that you learn the various Search Engine Optimization (SEO) tricks that can ensure that your website or blog beats the hundreds of thousands of other websites posted on the internet. Here are some valuable tips and strategies on learning how to SEO.

The first tip is to understand the manner in which search engines work.  They do not understand graphics.  They depend on matching the words in the search criteria with the keywords that might be present in your website.  Therefore, it will be necessary that you include many keywords and key phrases as you can into your website.  Imagine the different key phrases that your viewers might type into the search textbox and try to incorporate them into your site.  Even if you included photos in your site, make it a point to attach text tags to those photos so that the search engines can understand them.

Your key phrases should also be mentioned in the url and other related file names.  This is what the search engines are looking for.  The title tag, which is located at the top of your website should contain relevant key phrases as should the meta description tags.  The description tags will not be seen in your website, but will be featured in text form when the search engine displays your results.  Therefore, it is important to include phrases that entice the readers towards your website in your description tags.

Although it is important to remember not to just dump the same keywords and phrases in your URL, title and description tags and your file names since most search engines will interpret that as spamming and just reject your site.  Instead, try to incorporate various related keywords and key phrases that are similar to your keywords.

It is also a good idea to check your standing after conducting some dummy searches through various search engines.  This will give you a chance to fine-tune your keywords and key phrases. During this search, try to find out what the standing is of your competitors and try to analyze the reason for their success in case they are placed above you.  You should also ensure that your site’s internal links are crossed-linked perfectly since search engines will find it easy to latch on to the right page.  Another important tip is to continually add fresh content to your website since this will please both search engines and even your visitors.  The chances of your website getting bookmarked will also increase if you keep on providing fresh information.

Once you have made the necessary changes to your website, patience is key.  It will still take some time for search engines to recognize that fact and push you up the search engine ladder.

Make sure that you body copy is curtailed to around 300 words and that your keywords and key phrases are injected at regular intervals instead of bunching them at the top or bottom.

If you remember these tips and if you make all the necessary changes to your website, while waiting patiently, you will be pleasantly surprised to watch the search engines lock to your site during any related search.  Try out various new methods to ensure that your site remains on top since your competitors too will be doing the best to jump over you.

How to boost SEO with Twitter

March 10, 2011 by admin

Webmasters and internet marketers have recently been taking advantage of Web 2.0 avenues for SEO purposes so that their websites will earn more traffic than ever. Social networking sites and blogs have been two of the major targets for some time now and have been delivering rave results.

Most recently, people have been getting into Twitter which falls under the social networking category, but maintains its uniqueness by being a micro-blogging service as well. Now internet marketers are on the offensive in using Twitter as a platform to boost SEO. If you are looking to join in, take note of these unique challenges and possible workarounds.

New Users have a Tough Hill to Climb

If you are getting your feet wet with Twitter, understand that, just as you have to when you join other networking sites, you need to start off slow. The first thing to do is to be a follower of other Twitter members that you may know from other social networking sites. Most likely they will do the same and follow you as well. Having lots of followers is important for targeting others around Twitter and getting your ranking up.

All Shared Links in Twitter have the NoFollow Attribute
In short, your page ranking will not be affected if people click on your link which may be discouraging for SEO marketers, but that doesn’t mean that all is lost. You can still post rewritten URLs that have the necessary keywords on the link so the search engines pick them up.

Twitter has Character Limits

There are two magic numbers that you need to understand in Twitter: 30 and 140. 140 is the overall character limit for each message or “tweet” while 30 is the character limit for live links. It is impossible to go around the 140 character limit and exceeding the URL character limit will result to a shortened URL. Shortened URLs do not index very well with search engines, but fortunately there are a few workarounds.
You can try making use of subdomains on your website that point to the URL of your longer page. Subdomains can easily be customized for free and you might be able to squeeze in a few words within the character limit. You can also create a dummy blog that has similar content but a shortened address with all the necessary words you wish to put. Just be sure that blog links to the actual page that you want people to go to.

Keyword Research is Still Important

Making tweets can be tough if you restrict yourself to certain keywords. But using them are well worth it as Twitter has such a high page ranking. Keyword searches may lead to Twitter pages that contain links to the sites they are promoting. Tap into that after you made enough research.

Depending on what you are promoting, Twitter may not meet your expectations. But don’t let that discourage you because Twitter still helps in getting your site on the search engines. It is better if you boost your SEO using Twitter along with other social networking sites for added strength.

Basic Seo Tips For Dummies

SEO or Search Engine optimization is the practice of optimizing a website by promoting and improving its position in organic search rankings on major search engines like Google, Yahoo, Bing. The prime objective is to prove yourself better than your competitors so that search engines can rank your website on the top in their search results.

According to a research almost 88% of world population prefers using one or the other search engine to find out what they are looking on the Internet. All the search engines use well-defined algorithms which check for many factors to search the best website for the search query. The job of an SEO services provider is to perform all the possible activities that requires for better rankings in search results. There are many factors that a search engine uses to create their result page. Though the algorithm varies from one search engine to another but there are some points, which are generally followed by most of them. Some of these points are:

The content used in the page – the content should be unique and relevant throughout the website and the keywords should be smartly used on the site pages. But care should be taken as using it more than required can make search engines consider that as spamming. So a proper ratio should be maintained between the words used. Also the search engines cannot properly read images and flash animations. What they can read is text. So more and more text is in your webpage, higher is the chance of you being given importance by search engines.
The title tag is the most important on-page optimization techniques. Google gives it great importance while ranking a website. Ideal size of a title tag should be 65 characters or less (including blank spaces).
The URL is also important and should relate to what a website is designed for. For example a domain named, healthypeople.com selling toys is what will not go with search engines algorithm.
Proper keywords used in the webpage should be highlighted. This makes it clearly visible to visitors and also helps search engine bots to locate the important keywords in the page.
The anchor text should be properly researched and used. This text will be used by search engines to land on your website. Most of the search engines gives great importance to anchor text which is closely related to what the website is doing.
One more important factor is the age of your domain. All the major search engines contain this factor in their algorithm.
The number of back-links to a website is a very important point. The major work of a SEO expert is to build good quality back-links. Good quality back-links basically mean back-links from high PR (Page Rank) sites. If a high PR site has your link then it acts as a assurance for the search engines that your site is good as you are referenced by a good quality website.

SEO Tips to Improve Search Engine Optimization

March 9, 2011 by admin

Since the ranking of a site in the search engines is largely responsible for the amount of organic traffic a blog or content receives, optimizing any site to increase its search engines exposure is an important aspect of any online marketing effort.

Search engine optimization, or “SEO” is the method of applying technical and non technical techniques to a site to insure that the site appears on the list of search engine results when someone is looking for something that is featured on your site.

After getting some great tips from a few site managers I know and doing additional research online I was able to improve the SEO for my site. I was able to distill these tips into some basics that are important to any site that wants a larger share of search engine traffic.

Sites that are new and are just starting up should focus on getting incoming links. This is part of what Google uses to rank sites in the listings. Basically, more inbound links means more authority.

Remember that you shouldn’t go overboard with SEO motivated site changes. If you start creating dummy pages with incoming links with the idea of boosting your sites exposure for a certain keyword, you will end up with a lower page rank once Google realizes what you’re doing.

With these simple caveats in mind, here are a few SEO tips to consider.

Make sure you link out in addition to getting inbound links. Google does use the number of inbound links to your sites’ pages, but it does give more weight if the links are coming from authority sites.

Be sure to put keywords at the front of title tags and headlines. When you are planning the SEO for your site, think about the keywords that are most important and think about the keywords that will be used by people searching in Google for what’s on your site.

Search engines seem to put more value on a keyword that used earlier in the page title. One drawback of using keyword filled headlines is that you aren’t able to be nearly as creative as those tabloid newspapers can be.

Web addresses for any articles or blog posts should include keywords. It is also important that the URL for each article contains the keywords used in your headline and even the category for the article.

Page descriptions should be removed if they are not unique. If you use the first sentence of the article on the page or simply use the same meta-description on each page, it’s not going to be as relevant as the description that Google can extract from your site. Therefore, if your description is identical on every page you are much better of removing it and letting Google generate it on its own.

Highlight your top content on every page. One feature that is common on major news sites is a list of “Most Popular Stories” or “Most Emailed Stories.” Having that list in a prominent place on your site, on all pages, would bring more traffic (and inbound links) to your site’s best content, and serve as an entree into the site for people who just came to read one post.

Many readers will leave the site after reading only one they read the post they came for, but if you make it easy for them to find your very best work then they might stick around and read more or may even subscribe to your blog feed if they find your content compelling enough.

Limit the use of title tags and categories and use just the one that is most important. You should highlight only the important categories and put the others on a different page. Using too many tags will create a bunch of links that aren’t really useful. The best practice is to use tags for just the most important keywords.

Make sure that you create a Google News sitemap and that you optimize all the images. Publishers should submit special sitemaps to the search engines that are used to properly index the pages of your site. A sitemap is a dynamic XML file that the search engine spiders use to index the content on your site.

Reach Top Rankings for Your Legitimate Online Businesses with 3 SEO Tips

March 8, 2011 by admin

It is quite commonplace to see how many people get to number four or five in the search engine rankings and battle to reach number one, no matter how much effort they put into their SEO strategy. It can be really frustrating when you have done everything you think is possible to reach the top in the rankings game but just seem unable to get ahead.

Here are some quick tips on SEO tactics that may just help you get to the top:

1. Begin with something that is really quite simple but many people just overlook it. Look and see what your competitors are doing and legally “steal” their keywords. Check the keywords they are using in their title tags, anchor text etc. and especially the words they are using that link to their money pages. Some competitors may even include their keywords in their meta data.

Remember though, that there are some clever webmasters who could actually use dummy words in their meta data to keep people who like you, are checking out what they are doing off track. Although this might seem a bit dishonest to you because it is called “stealing” you could very well consider it a way of learning. In fact all that you are doing is discovering what they are doing and then doing a better job of it if that is at all possible.

2. Take some time to create a list of back-link sources with a high value, preferably from authority site and sites that relate to your online business niche. Adding some high power back-links to your website might be just the thing you need to bump your rankings up those last few notches.

To be sure that the links you get are powerful enough to give you that boost then making using a tool such as Linkscape will help you to work out your MozRank. From this you will be able to work out the quality of your incoming links. Other tools sometimes will only focus on the quantity of your links and not the quality. Having this type of information available to you will help you to decide on your next step. If your competitors have better MozRanks than you do then you will need to improve yours.

If this is not the case, and they are still ranking above you, then your problem could be your page optimization or not very good anchor texts. Whatever it is, you will need to find out and learn what must be done to improve your SEO strategy to get better rankings.

3. Finally, make use of the Google Webmaster Tools and do your own essential diagnostics. Many people make use of 3rd party sources to check out their websites, but at the end of the day not one of these sources will know more about how the search engines are seeing your website than Google will.

At the very least you should be sure that you have submitted a sitemap and if there are duplicate descriptions and tags then fix them. Check whether or not you are creating any issues for the spiders, if there are any 404 pages and you can even tell Google how to index your images.

Using these tactics will add tremendously to any SEO strategy and could be just what your legitimate online businesses websites require to reach the top of the search rankings.

SEO Help in the Form of Article Marketing

March 2, 2011 by admin

Seeing your website listed at the top of Google is the holy grail for most site owners. Instead of paying for advertising, you can get excellent free traffic by getting your site listed on Google’s first page of results.

So what’s the secret? Well, you definitely need help with your SEO strategy and marketing plan. And the easiest, quickest, and most cost effective form of SEO is article marketing. Back links are the key to rising quickly in the search engines, and there is no better way to get back links than article marketing.

Article marketing is not a new SEO technique, but there are some SEO companies that add their own spin on it to give you more bang for your buck. Regardless, article marketing is one of the first SEO strategies you will see recommended when you are searching for tips and tricks. The principle is simple. Create an article relevant to your business and submit it to online article directories. Each article will contain two back links to your site. Webmasters searching for free content will grab those articles from the article directories and put them on their own websites – leading to free back links for you.

In order to take full advantage of this SEO help, you will need to submit fresh content on a regular basis to article directories. If writing is not your strong suit or you don’t have the time to write, the service can be hired out or you can hire someone to handle this in-house.

Don’t make the mistake of submitting the exact same article to every article directory on the internet. Tweak the articles so you are submitting different articles to each directory. Yes, it’s more work, but you will get much better results.

Nothing is more frustrating than developing a great website only to have no visitors. Don’t let this happen to you. If your website is in need of SEO help, this is a great place to start. Research a topic that is relevant to your business and write an article on it. Hire someone to do this is you feel you are not capable. Results can be seen in a short period of time and, once you see how successful article marketing can be, you will want to use it even more.

Page Optimization for Dummies

March 1, 2011 by admin

In the SEO world, so much talk revolves around inbound links. It seems the main focus is always on inbounds, how to get them, how to keep them, and how to attract links from “authority” sites.

While inbound linking is crucial to SEO, many people neglect, or outright ignore another crucial part of SEO: page optimization.

In this article, I’ll give a few tips, and a high level look at what page optimization is all about. I’ll explain some of the meaning behind it, and hopefully you’ll find something you’ve missed on your own site.

Title Tag

You can write a whole article about the title tag. In fact, later on I will. A good title tag serves two purposes. Foremost, it entices users to click on your page. Most search engines use your title tag as the inbound link. Secondly, it is a valuable part of the search engine algorithm. This means two things. Make your title enticing, and use keywords in it.

Extra tip: Use a different title tag for every page on your site.

Meta Tags

Fellow SEOs, start up your flamethrowers! Meta tags are not dead.  They certainly aren’t as relevant as they were in 1998, but they are still used. In fact, google uses the description tag quite a bit. If you don’t want google to choose for you, put the desired text in the tag. Meta tags don’t hold a lot of weight these days, in fact i somewhat doubt the keyword tag holds any weight at all. But it only takes about a minute to add them, so why not? Make metatags, and optimize them for your content, and the sales pitch you want shown in the listing.

Extra Tip: Use different meta tag data for every page on your site.

Use a single, relevant H1 tag describing your content.

Pretty self explanatory. Use an H1 tag only once per page and make sure it states what that page is about. Spiders read H1s an factor them into the ranking. This is not always easy if you’re using a CMS or particular piece of software.

Extra Tip: If the H1 text is too large, make it smaller with CSS.

Use H2, H3 tags for subheadings.

Remember in school, when they taught you do to outlines? Think of h2 and higher tags as subheadings, that’s what they were designed for. Organize the content well so that relevant text is placed below each of the topics outlined in the tags. This provides a schema for the spider to determine the relevancy of the page.

Use bulleted lists.

Bulleted lists are a benefit from an SEO standpoint, but also from a human standpoint. When you break up information into lists it makes it easier to follow and increases the chances the reader will process it,rather than skipping it over.

Extra Tip: Use bulleted lists with CSS to make menus. This uses much less code, and is more extensible later.

Use text navigation, and structure it properly.

Again like the outline theory, you want your main page to branch off into sub category pages, and have all subcategories linked from the main site. Make sure your navigation is easy to use so you don’t lose the customer.  Use text navigation, and if you must use graphics, name the images by the subject, and use alt tags to describe the link. Flash navigation, while nifty, is virtually ignored by spiders.

I hope this has helped a little in making sense of what page optimization is all about. In the ever changing SEO scene, it’s becoming more important than ever to make sure your landing page is set up right.
